HEARTS BROKEN, HEALING AND TRANSFORMING

The latest evolution of the "Heart Locker" was on view from February 14 - March 10, 2025, at the HI-Desert Artists Gallery in Yucca Valley, CA, www.hi-desertartists.com/. It was the first time the installation had been shown in a gallery space. It was a challenge to figure out, but it all came together beautifully - 50 “hearts” hanging together!
As in earlier manifestations of the Heart Locker (see INSTALLATIONS), there was an experiential element as an integral part of the exhibition.  I invited visitors to share their responses to the "hearts", by writing them on tags which were tied to a grid for all to share in. Three questions on an adjacent poster provided a "prompt" for reflection:
"What breaks you heart?"
"What heals your heart?"
"What is transformed?"
Because I have had many years of experience facilitating groups in several areas of personal development, I also offered 3 workshops during the exhibition, focusing on participants’ experiences of the Heart Locker and its theme of heart transformation. The aim of the workshops was to provide a space to share stories of personal heart-healing. The format was facilitated group conversation and structured creative activities of writing, drawing and collage.
